Specialty Glazes for Technical Ceramics

Ferro offers custom-formulated specialty glazes for technical ceramics and advanced engineered ceramic components.

Specialty Glazes for Technical Ceramics

Ferro specialty glazes are designed to fill in the inherent rough surface on technical ceramics that results from the particle size of the starting material and the crystalline phase that happens from calcining. Our glazes can improve the surface quality properties of the entire technical ceramic component by creating a smoother surface and making it easy to remove unwanted residue.

Ceramic glazes are almost exclusively based on aluminosilicate glass systems manufactured from the main glass-forming oxide [silica (SiO2)] that is modified by the addition of a range of other oxides in order to engineer specific thermal, chemical and physical properties.

We offer a complete glaze product range that includes colored glazes, inorganic pigments for coloring glazes, decorating colors such as underglaze colors and screen-printing colors.

Ferro also provides organic auxiliary agents such as fluidizers, glues, anti-settling agents, preservatives, and screen-printing vehicles.

FERRO SPECIALTY GLAZE ADVANTAGES FOR TECHNICAL CERAMICS

  • Less susceptibility to dirt
  • Imparts higher mechanical strength
  • Increases chemical resistance
  • Better appearance
  • Makes colored markings possible

CUSTOM SPECIALTY GLAZES

Our specialty glazes can be developed based on our customers’ specifications with tailored properties to fit the ceramic with respect to its coefficient of thermal expansion (C.T.E.). Additional optimized properties include sieve residue, viscosity and specific weight.

All our ceramic glazes can be applied with methods like spraying, dipping, brushing, and printing onto a sintered ceramic body.

* Lead-free: PbO<0.5%. These products are technically lead-free. In the production of these materials, we do not use raw materials with lead as a main or minor constituent. However, this does not exclude lead as a trace constituent. Our production process is designed to avoid contamination with lead-containing products. Chemical analysis shows PbO contents significantly below 0.5%, in general.
